Pantothenic Acid (B5)

Pantothenic Acid (B5)

  • Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for various bodily functions. It is a member of the B-vitamin complex and is involved in numerous enzymatic reactions in the body.

  • Pantothenic acid is required for the synthesis of coenzyme A (CoA), a molecule that plays a critical role in energy metabolism and the synthesis of essential compounds.

  • Pantothenic acid is widely distributed in many food sources, including meat, poultry, fish, whole grains, legumes, and vegetables.

  • Ellement uses Calcium Pantothenate, which preferred for supplementation due to its stability, ease of formulation, and reliable bioavailability. It is well-absorbed by the body and readily converted into coenzyme A (CoA), the active form of pantothenic acid that is used in various biochemical reactions.

  • There is no established tolerable upper intake level (UL) for B5. It is generally considered safe and non-toxic, even at high doses. The body has efficient mechanisms for regulating the absorption, utilization, and excretion of excess B5. As a water-soluble vitamin, any excess B5 that is not needed by the body is typically excreted through urine.
